Bike Identification

The challenge

BIKE THEFTS: 38% people in The Netherlands prefer bicycle as their daily transport medium. Some buy them from shops, some take them on rent, others buy pre-owned bikes. However, a stolen bike is easily sold to a newbie in town without him/her knowing that it is stolen. Buyers fall for this because it is comparatively cheaper than going to a shop and buying a new bike. More than 50% of the bike bought by students/travelers are stolen bikes from another part of the city. There is no identification of a particular bike except for a frame number. Not every people report the theft, and not every reported theft is caught. There is a lack of a system which tracks the bike with its unique identification number along with details of the list of previous and current owner. If someone is selling a bike then most of the time they do not have reciept and the buyers do not verify that.

The solution

The Device: > Links bike frame number to a user ID. > GPS for location tracking. > Tamper-proof mechanism. > Rechargeable battery. > Blockchain-based database. Advantage/Purpose: > Transfer/receive ownership of the bike through the mobile app. > Track your bike easily on maps. > Receive an alert if anyone tries to tamper with the device. > Geo-tagging, Geo-fencing. > Make sure you don't buy a stolen bike. The device will have the details of bike frame number, device ID and the user information which will act as a digital pink slip for bikes, containing information about previous and current owner. A GPS/GSM module with a sim card (subscription needed) will track the location of bike and send an alert in needed. The device will be tamper-proof such that if it is fiddled with, the user will receive an alert on their mobile application, along with the location of bike. It will have a rechargeable battery which will continuously charge through the concept of Energy harvesting through Kinematic movement (oscillator circuit or a small fan circuit), hence longer battery life. In extreme case of theft, the device number can easily be flagged and hence it will prevent its resale because of the unique frame number and device ID. All the details will be stored as a blockchain based database to assure safety. Geo-tagging and Geo-fencing can be done so that when your bike gets out of a particular user decided area, the user receives an alert. (useful when you lend your bike to another person).
